About the company:

Intel Corporation is a semiconductor chip maker, developing advanced integrated digital technology products, primarily integrated circuits, for industries, such as computing and communications. The Company designs and manufactures computing and communications components, such as microprocessors, chipsets, motherboards, and wireless and wired connectivity products, as well as platforms that incorporate these components. It operates in nine operating segments: PC Client Group, Data Center Group, Embedded and Communications Group, Digital Home Group, Ultra-Mobility Group, NAND Solutions Group, Wind River Software Group, Software and Services Group and Digital Health Group. During the fiscal year ended December 26, 2009 (fiscal 2009), it acquired Wind River Systems, Inc., a vendor of software for embedded devices.

Reasoning:

I wanted to add another dividend paying stock, but also wanted to buy a company that I know will grow, instead of an income trust-like company. The markets are still low to get in, and so its the right time to lock in those high yielding dividend companies. Being a student, I’ve got limited amount of “cash” to go out and buy/sell what I want. You’ll also notice that a majority of my portfolio has dividend paying companies, so I assume that is simply something I am more attracted to with my current situation.

Bought 40 shares of Viterra Inc (TSE:VT) for $9.45 per share.

About the company:

Viterra Inc. (Viterra) is a Canadian agribusiness organized into five segments: Grain Handling and Marketing, Agri-Products, Food Processing, Feed Products and Financial Products. The Company’s Grain Handling and Marketing segment warehouses grain and oilseeds grown in South Australia in bunkers, silos and grain sheds. The Agri-products operations also include an ownership interest in a nitrogen fertilizer manufacturer and a network of retail locations. Viterra’s Food Processing segment produces semi-finished and finished food ingredients for consumer products companies and food processors worldwide. Viterra’s Feed Products segment processes raw materials into livestock feed, ingredients and nutritional supplements. The Financial Products segment offers financial products to producers in North America, primarily consisting of credit programs to support their on-farm cash flow requirements. On September 23, 2009, Viterra acquired all of ABB Grain Ltd.

Reasoning:

A friend of mine had introduced this company to me and after long discussions about this company’s attractive financials, its recent trend of acquisitions and current strong technicals, I decided to jump in. Not a whole lot, but still a worthwhile mention as its going to be a long-term hold.

So a months ago, I purchased a DSLR camera, the Canon T1i to be specific. I was tired of the spending money every 2-3 years on point-and-shoot cameras. I was amazed at the picture quality without even touching a setting, and looked forward to what could result once I actually knew what I was doing. Although I haven’t had much time to play around the settings and have usually been taking pictures at the preset settings (or settings that I unintentionally set), I managed to set up a photo portfolio website.
